School Data Privacy & Compliance

The Foundation of Trust

AI is Trained on Assessdo Data

Data Source: The AI model is trained using information collected by the Assessdo system, including self-awareness check-ins, observational insights, behavioral patterns, and performance metrics.

Model Learning: The AI learns patterns, trends, and insights from the data, allowing it to provide key points, make more accurate predictions, generate key findings with evidence and relevance, responses with detailed analysis and goal connections, recommendations with rationale and connections, and limitations of analysis with potential impact to overall scope of view.

Specialized Understanding: The AI might be specialized in understanding student emotions, perceptions, resilience, mindset, motivation, or well-being, depending on what Assessdo measures.

Implications:

Accuracy & Relevance: The AI’s responses might be more context-aware and emotionally intelligent.

Privacy & Ethics: If this is true in a real scenario, there are strong privacy, consent, and ethical considerations about how Assessdo data is used to train AI.

How do we eliminate and significantly reduce privacy and ethical concerns when training AI on Assessdo data?

Responsible Innovation

To eliminate or significantly reduce privacy and ethical concerns when training AI on Assessdo data (or any sensitive emotional/behavioral data), we take a multi-layered approach focused on data handling, transparency, and compliance. Our mission is to enhance emotional and behavioral insight—not to replace human decision-making. AI in Assessdo is used solely to support educators, counselors, and students, not to label, penalize, or predict punitive outcomes.

Data Anonymization and De-identification

To protect user identities, we remove all personally identifiable information (PII) from the dataset, including names, student id’s, contact details, school-specific identifiers, dates, locations, and IP addresses. Instead of tracking individual users, we assign randomized identifiers or use aggregated patterns that prevent re-identification. Additionally, we apply differential privacy techniques, which introduce slight variations in the data to obscure any single individual’s contribution—while preserving overall trends for analysis.  Our AI systems are trained on de-identified or synthetic data that reflects behavioral and emotional patterns without compromising individual identity.

Informed Consent

We require explicit, age-appropriate consent from all users or their legal guardians before collecting or using any data. This consent process is designed to be transparent and easy to understand. We use language that is age-appropriate for minors and ensure that legal guardian approval is obtained whenever necessary to protect the rights of underage users. Consent is granular—families can opt-in or opt-out of AI training separately from assessment participation.

Data Governance and Access Control

All data is stored on encrypted servers and protected with advanced cybersecurity protocols. Access is limited to authorized personnel under strict data access policies. Every data interaction is logged and monitored to prevent misuse or unauthorized use.

Ethical AI Oversight

We adhere to ethical AI principles, including fairness, accountability, transparency, and non-discrimination. An independent Ethics Advisory Board conducts periodic audits of our AI models and data use. We actively monitor and mitigate bias, particularly in relation to race, gender, neurodiversity, and socioeconomic status.

Synthetic Data Use

When feasible, our AI is trained on synthetic datasets that simulate realistic patterns without using actual student data. This approach minimizes privacy risk while maintaining model quality and responsiveness.

Transparency and Explainability

We believe in full transparency around how our AI systems operate. Users are provided with clear, accessible explanations about what the AI does, what types of data it has been trained on, and how its insights may influence decisions. Furthermore, users are empowered with the right to opt out of certain data usages.

Compliance with Laws

We maintain full compliance with all relevant data protection and privacy laws. This includes FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) for U.S. student data, COPPA (Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act) for online safety of minors, GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) for users in the European Union, and HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) where applicable in cases involving health-related information. These legal standards serve as a baseline for our higher ethical commitments.
